Make-Up Monday: Sephora VIB Sale

WARNING: it’s a long post.

I’ve been anticipating this sale and had items going in and out of my cart for a month before the sale. I am not someone to buy things just because they want them, but sometimes beauty items (make-up, skin care) is the umbrella where my thought process/purchase decisions can become impaired. Yup.

My beloved curling iron of 10 + years died last year and I haven’t purchased a new one. It was a 1.25 barrel and I have a smaller curling wand that I’d use. I’ve wanted a new curling iron, but it was always put on the back burner because I could clearly live without it. BUT when I saw that the DryBar The Tress Press was released I knew that would be a definite purchase. This does a tight curl, loose curl and a wave. It’s a great tool and worth every penny. It’s also a great size for when you just want to straighten a few little sections of hair that are a little stubborn when you blowout your hair. (Even my hair stylist needs to use her straightener on these sections because my natural curl is stubborn!)

I posted about the Nars Belle Mare lip liner and Damned Matte Lip Pencil in my Autumn/Winter Lip colors. The Belle Mare really deepens the color, but Damned alone is brighter and more daytime appropriate. Anyways, moving on!

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit was my splurge purchase. I don’t believe I would have ever bought this full price. If it weren’t for the discount, I wouldn’t have thought about this. I looked at it before to see if I understood the hype or felt like I Had To Have It, but I didn’t get that feeling. Buuuuutttt then it was discount time and thought, sure. Why Not? This is gorgeous. Amazing Quality. Just enough for a contour, which I rarely do. The highlight colors are beautiful and blush color is soooo pretty! I’d recommend it for anyone due to the quality and if you know this investment is something you’ll use and want to use on the regular.

Urban Decay All-Nighter Long Lasting Setting Make-up Spray. I think this is self explanatory. If it isn’t, well, it’s a a great product. GO BUY IT.

Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer. I got this to try out. I think my eyelids are becoming immune to the Tarte eye primer. I love my Tarte, but I’m starting to branch out using some Kat Von D products and this is my second product from her and it’s great! It was either this one or Too Faced, but I thought that since Kat converted me with her liquid liner I’ll give this a go.

Sticking on the Kat Von D brand, I also opted to buy her Tattoo Brow in Light Brown. This is another area where I’m devoted to a Tarte product, but wanted to branch out. I like how precise it is to color in your brow. Using this my brows are definitely more defined. The product doesn’t break up from my oily skin and wears well.

I need another eye shadow like I need a hole in my head, but I do not have many matte shadows. Which is perfect for a reason to buy the Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette! These are so pretty and so pigmented, which means this palette will last forever. Well, what will feel like forever. I haven’t used all the colors yet, but the ones I have used have been great. Very blendable, very pigmented, and they don’t have a lot of fall out. A little bit goes a long way and Tarte has definitely mastered the eyeshadow product.

For my mom I had ordered the Make Up Forever Mat Velvet + Mattifying Foundation, which she has used for quite some time now. She really likes it and it blends nicely on her skin. I feel I can speak on her behalf for this, as she’s tried a lot of foundations over the years, but this is the best looking foundation on her skin. It blends, it covers and it doesn’t separate throughout the day. My mom is 51 and has oily problematic skin with scarring. She also wanted to try the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops to play with the coverage and color.

I did want to order the Tarte blush palette and the brush collection, but they were sold out by the time I placed my order. Sigh. It just wasn’t meant to be!

I’m definitely satisfied with my purchases. The only wild cards at this moment are the Kat Von D products, as if they don’t withstand a work day with an intense work out then they will be returned.

I know there are some haul videos and other posts that have gone up already regarding the sale, but what did you buy? Did you try and new products? Did anything sell out that you wanted?

  1. Sigh. I didn’t have any luck with that Hourglass Ambient Powder, so I returned it. The quality is amazing – the powder so finely milled, but alas, it just didn’t show up on my dark skin…like, AT ALL. That Tress Press looks awesome, and anything by Nars is good in my book. LOL! Nice haul!

    1. Thanks! I have to ask, the shimmer didn’t even show on your skin? A few times I wondered if I’m too pale and so that’s why I need to pack it on a little bit (depending on the look). Have you looked into Jaclyn Hill’s Champagne Pop? I bet that’ll look gorgeous!
